It's a wrap - fixing litter in Durham

Students from The Hermitage Academy, Chester Le Street, showed they truly love where they live by helping to spruce up a littered route to school.

The group of keen youngsters litter picked, swept leaves and painted out graffiti on garages close to their school as part of their contribution to the Love Where You Live Day of Action on 17 October 2011.

The young volunteers, who included student Abbie Winter (pictured above), joined Durham County Council's Civic Pride team who organised the clean up as part of a number of environmental activities to coincide with the day of action. The activities will feature in a forthcoming DVD production entitled Fix You.

Funded by Chester Le Street Area Action Partnership and supported by Cestria Housing, the Fix You DVD project will feature some of the many actions taken by the area's young people in a bid to learn about the impacts of littering and other environmental crimes.

The finished presentation will be screened on a mobile cinema in the coming months.
